Companies are selling bonds faster than investors can trade them

SIFMA data through July 2026 shows companies issued 26.9% more new bonds than a year earlier — $1.681 trillion worth — while daily trading of existing bonds grew just 14.4% to $68.1 billion. When new bonds flood the market faster than buyers and sellers can keep up, it gets harder to trade efficiently, raising costs for everyday investors.
