An Otter Is Back in the Bronx River for the First Time in 100 Years

A camera that turns on by itself caught a river otter in the Bronx River on June 23, 2026. No otter had been seen there since the early 1900s. The Bronx Zoo shared the news on August 19. Otters had left because of dirty water, lost living space, and trapping for fur. Beavers came back to the same river in 2007.
