China-Linked Car Firm Chery to Open UK Tech Centre Near Military Site

Chery, partly owned by China's government, will open a research centre at UTAC Millbrook in Bedfordshire by late autumn 2026. The site is shared with the Ministry of Defence. Initial work covers car handling and driver-assist tools, later self-driving and AI. No money or job figures released. Chery's UK brands held nearly 8% market share in July 2026.
