Immigration Agency Bans Meta Smart Glasses, Builds Its Own

On August 18, 2026, ICE told staff not to wear Meta's camera-equipped smart glasses at work, fearing they could record sensitive information. At the same time, DHS set aside about $7.5 million to design similar glasses for ICE officers that use AI to identify people — keeping data on government servers instead of Meta's.
