Lib Dem leader Davey says he will 'stop the boats'

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey has pledged to "stop the boats" and wants the UK to join an EU agreement that lets countries send Channel-crossing migrants back. The tougher language, first used at the party's September 2025 conference, marks a break from the Lib Dems' usually humanitarian tone. Migrants would still be allowed to work while their claims are decided.
