YouTube view counts will go up August 24, but creator pay stays the same

YouTube will start counting a view the moment a video starts playing, rather than waiting for more engagement. The displayed numbers will likely rise. But creator earnings and eligibility for YouTube's Partner Program use a separate, behind-the-scenes metric and will not change. Creators who pitch sponsors based on view counts will need to adjust.
