Carney to announce deal ending 57-year electricity dispute between Quebec and Newfoundland

Prime Minister Mark Carney will announce a deal ending a 57-year dispute over Churchill Falls, a major hydroelectric project. Newfoundland has long complained the 1969 contract sold its power to Quebec too cheaply. Ottawa helped by offering financial incentives. A 2024 framework raised the price and added new power generation.
