Trump Tells Navy to Go Back to Steam for Launching Planes Off Carriers

A White House order published August 13, 2026 tells the Navy to stop using the newer electromagnetic system that flings planes off carrier decks and switch back to older steam-powered launchers on all carriers. Ships already built would need costly changes. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) said the reversal moves the Navy backward.
