New Hamas Leader Travels to Egypt for Gaza Peace Talks

Hamas's new leader Khalil al-Hayya heads to Egypt to meet its intelligence chief — his first trip since taking over in July 2026. The visit comes before U.S. envoy Jared Kushner travels to the region next week to push a Gaza plan Israel's leader rejected August 9. Hamas says it agreed to the plan; Israel says Hamas must give up its weapons first.
