
Fed Officials Clash: Does AI Mean Higher or Lower Interest Rates?
The Fed's No. 2, Vice Chair Jefferson, said July 16 that AI could be raising the economy's neutral rate — the interest rate that neither speeds up nor slows down growth. If right, the Fed's 3.625% rate may not be holding the economy back much. That challenges Chair Warsh, who says AI lowers prices and warrants rate cuts.
