Mexico's President Says US Visa Move Is Political Interference

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on 14 August 2026 called the US cancellation of Andres Manuel Lopez Beltran's tourist visa "interference in Mexican politics." Sheinbaum said she was unaware of any Mexican prosecutions against the former president's son and Morena party figure. The State Department has not responded. The case follows US drug charges against Sinaloa Governor Ruben Rocha and DEA claims of Mexican government ties to organized crime.
