Israel May Move West Bank Policing from Army to Civilian Police

On 14 August 2026, Israel's defence minister ordered the army to plan handing policing of Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank to Israel's civilian police. Critics warn this could be a step toward permanently claiming the territory. A Palestinian official called it a clear breach of international law and asked other countries to step in.
