License Plate Reader Company Adds New Safeguards After Police Misuse

Flock Safety on August 13, 2026, required new customers to track who searches its license plate reader data, log why each search is needed, and keep records for less time. CEO Garrett Langley said Flock "got this one wrong" in not requiring oversight sooner. The changes follow at least 14 cases of officers using the tools to stalk romantic interests.
