Mount Etna volcano erupts, stopping airport flights to and from Malta
Mount Etna, a volcano in Italy, erupted on 10 August 2026, sending a cloud of ash into the sky. The ash was so thick that Catania airport, 25 km away, had to stop incoming flights. By 11 August, 19 flights to and from Malta were cancelled. Winds carried the ash right over the airport.
