Romania Turns Off Its Only Nuclear Plant as River Hits Record Low

Romania shut down Cernavoda, its only nuclear plant, because the Danube River used to cool it dropped to a record low. One reactor was off since July 2026. The second followed after engineers tried blasting rock and sinking barges to push more water through. Romania now relies on gas, coal, and imports.
