Europe Hit by Fifth Heatwave of the Summer as Temperatures Soar

Europe is enduring its fifth heatwave of summer 2026. A heat dome — like a lid trapping hot air over the land — is pushing temperatures above 40°C across much of the continent. Spain and France could reach 43°C. This comes after France's hottest June ever and Spain's warmest summer in 2025.
