Drone Spies Huge Swarm of Rays off Long Island

Drone footage from August 7, 2026, off Southampton, NY, showed thousands of cownose rays swimming together in a group called a "fever." Florida State biologist Dean Grubbs says warming ocean waters likely pushed these flat, winged fish farther north than usual. He points to blacktip sharks, which have been gradually moving from North Carolina to New England over decades.
