Xcimer Completes First Private Electron-Beam Excimer Laser in Two Decades

Xcimer Energy built the first private-sector electron-beam-pumped excimer laser in over 20 years, with its KrF system achieving a record 3-microsecond pulse length in May 2024. The milestone fulfilled the first technical target of the company's U.S. Department of Energy fusion development roadmap three months ahead of schedule. The breakthrough validates Xcimer's inertial confinement fusion approach using excimer laser technology refined through decades of government research and Cold War–era Strategic Defense Initiative programs.
