Florida Sues OpenAI for Concealing ChatGPT Safety Risks
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed the first state-led lawsuit against OpenAI and Sam Altman, alleging the company suppressed internal safety warnings and deceived users about ChatGPT's risks while aggressively marketing the system to the public, including children. The 83-page complaint, filed in Highlands County, seeks damages and an injunction. The action signals state attorneys general will enforce AI safety claims where federal oversight remains underdeveloped.
