CME and ICE Launch GPU Futures to Standardize AI Infrastructure Pricing
CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange are launching futures contracts tied to graphics processing unit computing power, creating the first standardized market for AI infrastructure costs. The contracts, built on an index from Silicon Data, allow traders, AI builders, and cloud providers to hedge volatility in GPU rental costs. The move mirrors the bandwidth futures that emerged during the late-1990s telecom buildout, as computational resources shift from purely technical assets to tradeable commodities.
