U.S. and Canada Test Coordinated Drone Detection to Close Border Surveillance Gaps

The DHS Science and Technology Directorate has conducted cross-border drone exercises with U.S. Border Patrol and Canadian counterparts under the Canada-US Enhanced Resiliency Experiment. The bilateral framework enables real-time information sharing to address a critical operational constraint: agents currently can only monitor their own side of the border and lack time to intercept fast-moving unmanned aircraft. Recent smuggling operations using drones across the Niagara River exposed these gaps.
