Justice Department withdraws Times subpoenas after judge threatens sanctions

The Justice Department withdrew subpoenas for New York Times journalists' testimony and phone records after a July 23 hearing where Judge Arun Subramanian threatened to quash them and sanction federal attorneys for misleading the court. The subpoenas were filed July 10, two days after the Times reported Secret Service concerns about a $400 million Qatari jet gifted for Air Force One use.
