Government backs off demand for New York Times reporters' records after judge's warning

The Justice Department dropped its demand for New York Times reporters' testimony and phone records after Judge Arun Subramanian warned July 23 he would reject the demand and punish government lawyers for misleading the court. The demand was filed July 10, two days after the Times reported Secret Service concerns about a $400 million Qatari jet gifted for Air Force One use.
