Burnham creates 'No.10 North' in Manchester on first day as PM

Prime Minister Andy Burnham established "No.10 North," a Downing Street unit in Manchester city centre, on his first day in office. A government fact sheet published on 22 July 2026 describes it as the "engine room" of a place-focused strategy. A No.10 spokesman said Burnham expects to work from there "at least one day a week," subject to government business. Funding will come from existing Cabinet Office budgets.
