Burnham opens 'No.10 North' in Manchester on first day as PM

Prime Minister Andy Burnham set up a Downing Street unit in Manchester city centre on his first day in office. A government fact sheet dated 22 July 2026 calls it the "engine room" of a place-focused strategy. A No.10 spokesman said Burnham expects to work there at least one day a week. Funding comes from existing Cabinet Office budgets.
