Armed Gangs Kill at Least 20 in Northwest Nigeria Village Assault

Armed gang members killed at least 20 people in a multi-village assault in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, AFP reported on July 23, 2026. District representative Nasiru Lauwali told AFP that a large number of bandits invaded communities in the Sauna district. The death toll may rise; poor communications in the remote area limit reporting. Zamfara is a longstanding flashpoint for banditry.
