Armed Groups Kill at Least 20 Villagers in Nigeria

At least 20 people were killed when armed gangs attacked several villages in Zamfara, a state in northwest Nigeria, AFP reported on July 23, 2026. Local official Nasiru Lauwali said a large group of attackers swept through the Sauna district. The death toll could rise because the area is remote and hard to reach with phones. Zamfara has faced such violence for years.
