Russian Hackers Breached Polish Water Treatment Systems, Gaining Operational Control
Poland's ABW intelligence agency confirmed that Russian state-sponsored attackers successfully accessed industrial control systems at water treatment facilities in five towns—Jabłonna Lacka, Szczytno, Małdyty, Tolkmicko, and Sierakowo—during 2024–2025. The breaches granted adversaries the ability to alter technical parameters of critical devices, moving beyond reconnaissance to direct manipulation of municipal water supply operations. ABW assessed the threat as part of large-scale Russian reconnaissance across Poland targeting military, infrastructure, and public facilities.
