
Canada joins U.S.-led overcapacity pledge while easing tariffs with China
Canada signed a U.S.-led G20 trade ministers' statement to tackle state-supported excess capacity in electric vehicles, batteries and solar panels. Ottawa maintains 100 per cent tariffs on Chinese-made EVs imposed in 2024, while an initial trade deal with Beijing will slash EV and canola tariffs. Ottawa will need to explain how those positions fit together.
