
Canada backs U.S. overcapacity pledge, eases China tariffs
Canada signed a U.S.-led G20 trade ministers' statement to curb state-backed overcapacity — subsidized electric vehicles, batteries and solar panels flooding world markets. Ottawa keeps its 100 per cent 2024 tariff on Chinese-made EVs, even as an early deal with Beijing cuts EV and canola tariffs. Ottawa must square the two.
