Ex-BND chief allegedly got 2,000 classified documents from aide for pay

German prosecutors allege former BND chief August Hanning paid ex-aide Manfred D to supply BND intelligence from spring 2010 onward. Manfred D, chief of staff until March 2026, allegedly handed over about 2,000 documents, many classified for internal executive briefings. Both men were arrested Tuesday and their premises searched.
