Former German spy boss arrested over secret papers for money

German prosecutors say former BND chief August Hanning — the BND is Germany's foreign spy agency — paid former aide Manfred D for agency secrets from spring 2010 on. Manfred D, a senior aide until March 2026, allegedly handed over about 2,000 papers, many secret reports for top leaders. Both were arrested Tuesday and their homes and offices searched.
