
Former BND chief accused of paying aide for 2,000 classified files
German prosecutors say former BND chief August Hanning paid ex-aide Manfred D for BND intelligence from spring 2010 on. The BND is Germany's foreign intelligence agency. Manfred D, chief of staff until March 2026, allegedly handed over about 2,000 documents, many classified for internal executive briefings. Both were arrested Tuesday and their premises searched.
