NSW approves Hunter Valley coal mine despite 809Mt emissions forecast

The NSW Independent Planning Commission approved Yancoal and Glencore's Hunter Valley Operations mine near Singleton to run until 2045. The companies forecast 809 million tonnes of CO2 once exported coal is burned. The Commission acknowledged climate harm to the Hunter, NSW and globally, but said jobs, economic activity, royalties and tax revenue outweighed it.
