NSW Says Yes to Hunter Valley Coal Mine Until 2045
New South Wales' Independent Planning Commission approved the Yancoal-Glencore Hunter Valley Operations coal mine near Singleton until 2045. Burning its exported coal would release 809 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, which traps heat like a blanket. The Commission said climate harm to the Hunter, the state and the world was real, but jobs, business activity, royalties and taxes outweighed it.
