DOT Cuts 2031 Fuel-Economy Target to 34.9 MPG From 50.4

The U.S. Department of Transportation finalized a rule cutting the model year 2031 fleet-average fuel-economy target to 34.9 mpg from 50.4 mpg. The department described it as among the largest deregulatory actions under the second Trump administration, saying it "restores integrity to the national fuel economy program, balancing vehicle affordability and energy conservation goals."
