Elon Musk testified in Oakland federal court that his 2015 decision to create OpenAI stemmed directly from a breakdown with Google co-founder Larry Page. Musk claimed Page called him a "specieist" for prioritizing human welfare and allegedly said it would be "fine" if artificial intelligence eliminated humanity. The two men, once close friends, severed ties when Musk recruited Google AI researcher Ilya Sutskever to launch the rival lab.
