New Zealand to introduce national digital product labelling standard, forecasting $111m benefit

The Government will introduce a national digital product labelling standard allowing real-time updates to product information. Regulations Minister David Seymour announced the move on 6 September 2026, forecasting $111 million in economic benefit over ten years. Seymour said digital labels would not replace physical labelling but give businesses the option to adopt the current global standard. The changes result from a Ministry for Regulation review.
