Serbian Spyware Wave May Have Been a Dry Run Before October Elections

At least 14 Serbian civil society members — students, activists, an MP, and a local councilor — were targeted with mercenary spyware since early 2026, Share Foundation reported September 2. The digital rights group said the timing around March's local elections may have been a practice run ahead of snap national elections in October 2026. Citizen Lab confirmed Pegasus spyware in at least one case. Parliamentary speaker Ana Brnabić denied the targeting. No evidence directly attributes it to President Vučić's government.
