Nvidia's $12.93bn Hugging Face acquisition extends its grip from GPU silicon to AI model distribution
Nvidia agreed on September 3, 2026 to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93bn, placing a platform hosting thousands of AI models, datasets, and libraries under the same roof as the GPUs that train them. CEO Jensen Huang pledged the platform stays open and Nvidia chips won't be required. Competitors Intel and AMD, both Hugging Face backers, now depend on a rival's subsidiary.
