Niger Mutiny Strikes Base Shared by Sahel Alliance, Russian and Italian Forces

On 29 August 2026, soldiers mutinied at Niger's Air Base 101 in Niamey. The base hosts an Alliance of Sahel States counter-terrorism unit alongside Russian and Italian forces and was targeted twice by jihadists in 2025. Niger's military said it regained control the same day. No casualty figures or mutineer numbers have been disclosed.
