Iran War Drives UK Energy Price Cap Up 4%, With More Rises Forecast
Ofgem confirmed a 4% energy price cap rise from 1 October 2026, lifting typical household bills to £1,723. Reuters reports the increase was driven by the Iran war pushing up wholesale gas prices. Cornwall Insight forecasts a further 9% rise in January 2027. It is the second quarterly increase after July's 13% jump.
