Flash Floods in Nepal and Tibet Kill at Least 359, Over 1,300 Missing

Flash floods struck Nepal and Tibet on 26 August 2026, killing at least 359 and leaving more than 1,300 missing. A suspected earthquake-triggered ice-rock avalanche sent a wall of water through a remote Himalayan trekking and pilgrimage region. Hundreds of foreign tourists from five countries remain unaccounted for. Nepali army helicopters have rescued over 100 people; the UN has allocated $2 million in emergency aid.
