Linux 7.1 Replaces NTFS Driver with Native Read-Write Support
Linux kernel 7.1 includes a ground-up rewrite of its in-kernel NTFS driver, replacing the aging read-only implementation and the staging-tree NTFS3 driver. The new driver handles Windows volume reads and writes directly in the kernel proper, without userspace relay. For dual-boot systems and enterprise environments managing mixed filesystems, this eliminates the need for third-party tools and lowers the integration burden for distribution maintainers.
