ICC President, Sanctioned by US, Urges Japan to Counter Washington's Withdrawal Campaign

ICC President Tomoko Akane, sanctioned by the Trump administration days earlier, urged Japan — the court's largest financial backer — to counter a US campaign pressuring member states to leave the ICC. At least five countries have already withdrawn. The US, itself a non-member, acted after the ICC sought an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and probed US troops in Afghanistan.
