Zero-Contained Hawk Fire Forces 14,000 Reno Homes to Evacuate, Reaches University of Nevada Campus Eve of Classes

The Hawk fire has burned over 10,500 acres in the Sierra foothills toward Reno with zero containment, forcing nearly 14,000 homes to evacuate. The "GO NOW" evacuation zone reached the edge of the University of Nevada, Reno campus, which enrolled roughly 24,000 students last fall. Classes are scheduled to begin August 24. University officials said an emergency response plan is in place should conditions change.
