OpenAI Launches ChatGPT for Teens With Auto Age-Gating and Parental Safety Alerts
OpenAI released ChatGPT for Teens on August 17. When the system predicts a user is under 18, the teen experience activates by default — no new account required. It limits conversations on self-harm, violence, and eating disorders, nudges users toward Study Mode, and sends safety notifications to parents with linked accounts in high-risk situations. Child safety experts want independent evidence the mechanisms work.
