$3.48m report behind Australia's social media ban contains fabricated AI-generated citations

A $3.48 million report the Albanese government used to justify Australia's under-16 social media ban contains citations to non-existent academic articles, a Guardian Australia analysis has found. A Senate inquiry submission says the references "appear to be AI hallucinated." ACCS, which produced the report, initially denied using AI before ChatGPT metadata was found in its links.
