
Zambian voters call election "50-50" despite frontrunner narrative
Zambians voted in their 2026 general election on 13 August. Reuters and AP frame President Hichilema as favoured for a second term. But voter Mwiche Nalupumbwe told AFP that frustrated Zambians see a "50-50" contest. Hichilema faces 13 candidates, with Brian Mundubile his strongest challenger. Zambia's 2021 election also ousted an incumbent amid economic discontent.
