Prosecutors and Luigi Mangione's lawyers jointly requested an unexpected hearing in Manhattan federal court, fueling speculation of a plea deal in his federal stalking case. Mangione pleaded not guilty to state and federal charges in the December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. A plea could preempt his state murder trial, set for September 8.
